The team of Venkatesh and
Anjala Zaveri’s Preminchukundam Raa recently came together to celebrate 25 years of the film’s release on May 9.

Jayanth C Paranjee took to social media to share videos of their celebrations which included cake, champagne and lots of banter. Talking at the meet-up, Venkatesh said, “In 25 years of my career, it’s the only film of mine that can be termed as cult. Wherever I go, Preminchukundam Raa remains recognised and special. It was a beautiful love story supported by able technicians. I am glad we came together for this film,” going on to reveal unknown anecdotes about the film. The director also said, “This film became a hit because of everyone involved, thank you.”
Suresh Babu joined them over video call while the cast and crew wished he was there in person.
Preminchukundam Raa told the story of a young couple in love amid factionism in Rayalaseema. Venkatesh played a happy go lucky student called Giri from Hyderabad, who is sent to Kurnool by his parents. There he falls in love with Kaveri, his neighbour, played by Anjala Zaveri. The film which released in 1997 saw screenplay by Paruchuri Brothers, story by Deenraj, cinematography by K Ravindra Babu and music by
Mahesh Mahadevan. Reports state that Preminchukundam Raa was the first Telugu film to run 100 days in more than 50 centres back then.
