Sivaji, the actor, sparked a major controversy recently when he raised his views on women’s clothing at the pre-release event for his latest movie, ‘Dhandoraa’. Reacting to the backlash,
Sivaji asserted that the intention behind his remarks wasn’t to shame women or undermine their sense of autonomy; they were to share a social concern.
'Dhandoraa' actor's intent was public safety
In an interview with ANI, Sivaji said that he made the statement with the intent of making women safe in public spaces. Sivaji further said, "I wanted to convey that a person should be presentable and take pride in the way he or she looks whenever he or she goes to public surroundings." However, he also accepted the fact that he had used two vulgar words. Those words were unnecessary; I apologized for them. I offer my heartfelt condolences to all women concerned in this regard," he noted. Nonetheless, He added that he was still sticking to the basic substance of his speech, which was concern for social security.
The trigger behind Sivaji's statement
In the context of this observation, he recalled the availability of the center within Lulu Mall in Hyderabad. Sivaji added that
Nidhhi Agerwal was coerced to place herself in ‘an unconventional posture’ owing to the uncontrollable mob around her during a film promotion. “The shame and fear I witnessed in that woman’s eyes really felt heavy on my heart. That’s the reason I wanted to speak up about it. Women’s safety matters to me,” he said.
Controversy fuels social media debate
On the other hand, Sivaji had publicly apologized, admitting that his statements were not in good taste. But not content with this, the Telangana State Commission for Women felt that a suo motu probe was in order and issued a notice to Sivaji to attend a questioning meeting on December 27, 2025. Social media is also fiercely swinging with debates on women’s freedom, safety, and responsibility.
