Chinmayi Sripaada recently reacted to the comments made by Telugu veteran
Chiranjeevi on the
casting couch culture. The Megastar shared that there is no casting couch in the industry and that it depends on the individual. Soon after his comments, the singer shared her own experiences and the stories of many women. She called the casting couch a real and ongoing problem.
Chinmayi’s social media post
Chinmayi took to her X (formerly Twitter) handle, rejecting Chiranjeevi’s words, she wrote, “Casting couch is rampant, women are refused roles if they don’t offer ‘full commitment’ - a word that means completely different in the film industry.” She said many women face pressure when they enter films. She also shared the story of a woman who came from abroad for work and was assaulted. Chinmayi said this problem is real and happens often.
Chinmayi’s personal experience and strong words
The singer also spoke about her own trauma. She wrote, “I didn’t get molested by Vairamuthu because I was asking for it.” She added, “I was barely an adult out of my teens.” She said her mother was in the same building, yet the abuse happened. She ended by saying, “Men believing they are OWED sex in return for giving work are the problem. End.”
Chinmayi also explained how words can be misleading. She warned that “commitment” does not mean professionalism in the industry. She said men in power misuse it. She shared more stories of harassment, including a woman locking herself in a studio to escape assault.
Speaking on the generational differences, Chinmayi wrote, "Legendary Chiranjeevi garu comes from a generation where they all were friends or even family friends with their female co-artists, mutually respected each other, worked with legends, and they are all legends themselves."
