When a film like 'GOAT' does well, the entire ecosystem profits: Archana Kalpathi
For AGS Entertainment, there couldn’t have been a better project than The Greatest Of All Time (GOAT) to mark their milestone 25th film. It provided the production house not only an opportunity to team up with a superstar like Vijay for the second time (after Bigil), but also produce a film on a massive scale.
“It is our biggest film from a budget and production standpoint. We’ve made this film for a budget of more than ₹350 crore. The shooting happened for almost 150 days. And on many days, we had about 3,000-4,000 people on set,” shares Archana Kalpathi, the creative producer of the film.
Talking about why the industry needs big-star films, she adds, “It is very important for big films to do well, because that impacts more people who are working in the industry, from the FEFSI workers to technicians and artistes. These tentpole films are where the theatres make money and the distributors make money. The entire ecosystem makes a profit.”
Talking about how the project happened, she shares, “After Bigil, Vijay sir and Kalpathi S Aghoram, my dad, had decided to do another project together. VP narrated this one-line to me, and we loved it. We needed a really big star to mount this story. Since Vijay sir’s side had also reached out to VP, it all came together.”
The team is trying to expand the market with this film, she informs. “GOAT will be released in over 5,000 screens. We are also expanding in new territories abroad, and setting up the film in such a way that there are also Telugu and Hindi releases along with Tamil one,” concludes Archana, adding that the credit for pulling this project off belongs to Kalpathi Aghoram.
