Director Atlee became popular after working with Vijay in three consecutive films - 'Theri', 'Mersal' and 'Bigil'. Atlee has earned massive recognition, working his way from being an assistant to Shankar. Atlee made his debut directorial with the romantic drama 'Raja Rani' and impressed the audience with the masala content. As Atlee celebrates his 34th birthday today, here’s taking a look at five times when the young director surprised the audience with his style.

Nazriya Nazim's death scene in 'Raja Rani'
'Raja Rani' was a romantic comedy-drama which starts with the wedding scene of Arya and Nayanthara. Arya's love scenes with Nazriya Nazim were highly loved and few related to it too. But when all is going well, Nazriya Nazim passes away in an accident. This scene from 'Raja Rani' made a lot of people emotional and emerged as a memorable one from Atlee's debut.

A glimpse of Vijay Kumar in 'Theri'
Atlee joined hands with Vijay for the first time for 'Theri' and fans were excited to see Vijay in a cop avatar. Atlee expertly presented a glimpse of Vijay Kumar (Vijay's cop avatar), before moving onto the cop story. This scene of Vijay in a police station was much appreciated by the audience and GV Prakash Kumar's music added great power to it.

Vijay's magic show in 'Mersal'
Vijay believed in Atlee's talent and they teamed up for a second time for 'Mersal'. The expectations from the film were high, right from the time when it was announced. Vijay appeared in a triple role, as a father and his two sons. Vijay narrated a poem in Tamil in a magic show scene, and Atlee’s expert technique of portraying Vijay's father’s character on the silver screen earned much appreciation.

Vijay walking along with MGR in 'Mersal'
Atlee has presented Vijay in many lovable ways and one among them is Vijay's Vetrimaaran character from 'Mersal', wherein Vijay played the role of a powerful village man. During a fight scene in a theatre, Vijay is seen breaking the door and entering in a style which reminded fans of veteran actor MGR.

Rayappan's Sambavam in 'Bigil'
Atlee's third film with Vijay, 'Bigil', was a sports drama. This venture emerged as one of the highest grossing films of Vijay. Atlee showcased Vijay completely in a new avatar, an elderly father 'Rayappan' in 'Bigil'. Even though the Rayappan character had less screen time, Atlee perfectly captured Vijay in the role and they earned massive praise from fans.
