The makers of the historical film ‘Draupathi 2’ have officially confirmed that the song ‘Emkoney’ will not feature with singer Chinmayi’s vocals when the film releases in theatres. Director Mohan G Kshatriyan and producer Chola Sakkaravarthi shared that they have now selected another singer for the song. They clearly stated that only the new version will be used in the final film print.
Song version change confirmed
As per a report by IANS, producer Chola Shakkaravarthi said in simple words, “The song will appear in this other person's voice in the film.” With this, the makers put an end to all confusion around the song.
After recording the song, Chinmayi shared a public apology on social media. She explained that she was unaware of the film’s context when she sang the song. She had said, "At the outset, my heartfelt apologies for 'Emkoney'. Ghibran is a composer I have known for 18 years since my jingle singing days. When his office called for this song, I just went and sang as I usually do. If I remember right, Ghibran wasn't present during this session - I was given an idea on how to sound tonally for the song; I finished the recording and I left. It is only now that I have got to learn about the context. If I had known beforehand, I would never have collaborated because the ideologies are at complete contradiction to mine. This is the absolute truth."
Why was Chinmayi's version removed?
Following this, director Mohan G Kshatriyan expressed his disappointment. He said he waited for a response, but later filed a complaint, stating that the film was spoken about negatively in public without reason. He confirmed that an alternate singer was chosen after this.
About the film’s story
‘Draupathi 2’ is a large historical film set in 14th-century South India. The director shared that the story is inspired by a small history book titled Moondram Vallalla Maharaja. He said the key events shown in the film are based on real facts, while characters are shaped with cinematic freedom.
Richard Rishi plays the lead role, with Rakshana Indusudan as the female lead and Natti Natraj in an important role. Chirag Jani will be seen as Mohammad Bin Tughlaq, introduced as a powerful villain. The film will feature three strong antagonists in total.
The film recently completed post-production and has received a U/A certificate.
