'Captain Prabhakaran 2' on the cards; RK Selvamani reveals 'Pushpa' delayed sequel plans, desires to team up with Vijayakanth's son Shanmuga Pandian

Vijayakanth's 100th film, 'Captain Prabhakaran', is a unique film in the history of Tamil cinema. Directed by R.K. Selvamani, the film was released in 1991 and became a huge success. It was after that victory that Vijayakanth was called "Captain" Vijayakanth. Now, 34 years later, the film was digitally restored and re-released across Tamil Nadu on August 22nd, and was celebrated like a festival by fans.

Fans and filmmakers celebrate 'Captain Prabhakaran' re-release

On the occasion of Vijayakanth's birthday, directors R.K. Selvamani, Perarasu and actor Mansoor Ali Khan joined fans at a cinema in Chennai to enjoy the film 'Captain Prabhakaran'. RK Selvamani, who met with reporters after the theater experience, expressed her happiness. “This is a huge recognition. This is a victory for Vijayakanth sir's hard work. It amazes me that even 70-year-olds are coming to watch the film," he said.

Young generation embraces the film

RK Selvamani also emphasized that today's generation of youth has also enthusiastically embraced the film. "I was skeptical whether the current 2K kids would like the film. But they also came into the theater and danced. The film was celebrated like a festival. This was a huge success for us," he said, adding that those moments brought great joy to his heart.

At the same time, he has also spoken openly about a sequel ‘Captain Prabhakaran’. “I had the idea of making a part 2 of this story. But because of the release of the film ‘Pushpa’, I temporarily put it on hold. Vijayakanth's son Shanmuga Pandian acts just like his father. There is an idea to make this film with him. I am thinking of creating a story that is similar to that and making 'Captain Prabhakaran 2' soon," he said. With this, great expectations have once again been created among Captain fans.
