The Tamil Nadu government announced the State Film Awards on Thursday, and
Aparna Balamurali bagged the 2020 Best Actress award for her role in ‘Soorarai Pottru’. In a note shared on Instagram, Aparna Balamurali has penned a heartfelt note on how the film, and the role of Bommi has changed her life for better. She earlier won the National Award for Best Actress for the same film.
“Some roles change you forever, and for me, playing Bommi was exactly that. Receiving the Tamil Nadu State Award for Soorarai Pottru is a deeply emotional moment that stays close to my heart. Even after six years, the journey of Bommi feels as fresh and inspiring as the day we started. This experience has been incredibly special, and I am overwhelmed to see the character still resonating with so many of you,” she said.
Talking about the character she played in the film, and how it is always special, she added, “Bommi is a character that will always be dear to me. I related to her spirit so deeply, and she represents the kind of strength and independence I aspire to have in my own life. Although the film was released during the pandemic, seeing it become a symbol of hope during those tough times was truly moving. Knowing that Bommi gave so many women the confidence to start fresh and pursue their dreams is a reward in itself,” she said.
