Some of the Marathi movies that admire Lord Vitthal

Throughout India, everyone worships many different Gods and religions, while in Maharashtra the spiritual capital is Pandharpur and here Lord Sri Vitthal (Pandurang) is worshipped. Devotees also call him Vitobha. The seven-hundred-year-old Dindi Yatra by Varkari Samudaay by foot is the best display of devotion to Lord Vitthal which destines at Pandharpur. On the occasion of Aashadi Ekadashi let's have a rundown on some of the Marathi movies that admired Lord Vitthal.

'Sant Gora Kumbhar'

This movie is directed by Rajesh Limkar which featured Mangesh Diwanj, Mansi Lonkar, Nitin Mhadik and Sayali Patil in prominent roles. The story is pictured on the Hindu saint Gora Kumbhar who belonged to Varkari Samudaay and was a potter by occupation and was a great devotee of Lord Vitthal. He wrote many Abhangas which were sung in kirtans then. An incident when his child gets crushed under his feet makes him give up his family and submit his rest of the life to Lord Vitthal.

'Hari Om Vithala'

This devotional movie is directed by Saad Dalvi and it featured Makarand Anaspure, Jayant Sawarkar, Amita Khopkar and others. The movie is based on the life of Ganya who is a devotee of Lord Vitthal. When he is caught in the hardships of life he asks God for the solution and surprisingly the Lord replies. When he tells this to everyone, people think he has lost his mind. Unable to bear with all these things he moves to Bombay and wins lakhs in a singing competition and when he is back to the village he is shocked to see his clone in his place taking care of his family.

'Vitthal Vitthal'

Gajendra Ahire directorial 'Vitthal Vitthal' featured Milind Gawali, Vrinda Gajendra, Mitalee Jagtap in the lead roles. The story unfolds 4 different characters who have joined the Vari with their own different motives. One is a scientist who wishes to ask Pandurang why did his son die, the other woman is in the search of her father, another one is searching for her lover and the last one is hiding in the Vari. What happens with all of them makes up for the film.

'Bhakta Pundalik'

This movie is the sentimental biopic of one of the greatest saints of Maharashtra Pundalik who was a devotee of Lord Vithoba and brought him to Pandharpur. This movie was directed by Dutta Dharmadhikari and it featured Yashwant Dutt, Chandrakant Gokhale, Sarla Yeolekar, Saroj Sukhtankar, Lata Karnataki, Heera Chawan and others. Pundalik was the founder of Varkari sect, he is the beloved devotee of Lord Vitthal. The movie unfolds his life story and thus deserves a watch.

'Lai Bhaari'

'Lai Bhaari' marked Riteish Deshmukh's acting debut in Marathi films. It was directed by Nishikant Kamat and proved to be a blockbuster. The story unfolds when Mrs. Nimbalkar promises to give her first child to Lord Vitthal as an offering in order to acquire motherhood. She keeps her word and does as per the Mannat and gives birth to a second child with the Lord's blessings. While all this they move to London and then her son and husband are killed by an evil cousin. Now she returns to Pandharpur to ask for her son's return and then Mauli enters in a dramatic fashion, revealing that he is actually her own child which she had devoted to Lord Pandurang.
