Adoor Gopalakrishnan on Mohanlal’s Dadasaheb Phalke felicitation: ‘No grand celebration when I received’; Actor responds

During the government-organized felicitation event ‘Vaanolam Malayalam Laal Salaam’, held to honour Mohanlal, the latest recipient of the Dadasaheb Phalke Award, the veteran director Adoor Gopalakrishnan shared that there was no such grand celebrations conducted when he was honoured with the same award back in the day.



Adoor Gopalakrishnan said, “When I received this award two decades ago, there wasn’t such a grand celebration. Now, our government and Chief Minister have taken a special interest in honouring Mohanlal. I share in your happiness and pride over this.”

Taking the mic after Adoor Gopalakrishnan, Mohanlal responded with humility laced with humour. The 'Patriot' actor said, “The first time he said something good about me… or no, he has spoken about me many times before — thank you, Adoor sir.” Eventhough it was not a direct reply to what Adoor said, the social media is praising Mohanlal for his classy indirect response to the veteran filmmaker's remarks.




Later that evening, Mohanlal took to Facebook to express his appreciation for the honour. He wrote, “Moments like these fill me with profound gratitude… My sincere thanks to the Government of Kerala for the honour and warmth shown during the felicitation held in celebration of the Dadasaheb Phalke Award.”

Mohanlal concluded the note by saying, “Your love, blessings, and unwavering support will always be my greatest reward.”

Mohanlal's Dadasaheb Phalke honour

The Malayalam superstar was conferred with the Dadasaheb Phalke Award by the President, Droupadi Murmu during the 71st National Awards Ceremony which was held at Vigyan Bhawan in New Delhi. During his acceptance speech, Mohanlal said, "I am happy that Malayalam cinema has received an award in Indian cinema. I am working in the field of Ishwar (God), and that is why I say that the award was given by Ishwar (God). There is also the honesty we show in our work. I share this award with everyone, and I remember those who have passed away."


Meanwhile, Adoor Gopalakrishnan was awarded the Dadasaheb Phalke award in the year 2004.
