Rebel star, Mandaya Gandu Ambareesh is one the amazing actors we have had in Sandalwood. And with his sad demise, it would not be wrong to say that an era in the industry has come to an end. While the entire nation mourns his passing away, here we make an effort to fondly remember him through some of his amazing works in the films that you should simply not miss.

‘Antha’

‘Antha’ is one of the turning points in the career of late actor Ambareesh. Ambareesh played a double role for the first time in this movie. This movie was directed by SV Rajendra Singh Babu, starring Lakshmi as the female lead. The movie is about a sincere police cop, who is on a special duty in finding a secret plan prepared by some notorious people to disrupt the peace in the country. While on his duty, he loses his wife and mother. When his higher officials cheat him, he takes revenge by killing everyone. ‘Antha’ was a super hit movie because Ambareesh played both hero and villain’s role in the movie. His dialogues and acting in the movie was much appreciated. The makers also planned a sequel to the film titled, ‘Operation Antha’ in 1995.

‘Diggajaru’

‘Diggajaru’ is a movie based on friendship. Ambareesh and Vishnuvardhan, who started their career together, were great friends in real life and this movie showed us their chemistry as friends. Ambareesh, who played the role of a landlord, is friends with one of his workers to the extent that they are ready to sacrifice their lives for each other. One of them goes to jails for a murder committed by the other one’s sister. When the latter realises that he helps him by adopting his son. The songs from the movie got quite popular.

‘Chakravyuha’

‘Chakravyuha’ is 1983 movies directed by V Somashekar, starring Ambareesh and Ambika in the lead role. Ambareesh got a positive response for his acting in the movie and he earned ‘Rebel Star’ title from the movie. The movie is about an unemployed person, who is sponsored by a politician to become a cop. When he started serving people honestly, he finds out his politician sponsorer and his father-in-law was involved in the criminal gang, and they ask him to involve in the gang. Ambareesh joins the gangs becomes the leader leading a government and kill all the criminal politician in the cabinet.

‘Paduvarahalli Pandavaru’

‘Paduvarahalli Pandavaru’ is one the best movie in the career of Ambareesh directed by Puttanna Kanagal starring Ramakrishna, Jai Jagadish, Dheerendra Gopal, Musuri Krishnamurthy along with Ambareesh. The movie is about a fight between five men against a landlord in the village. The storyline was adopted from Mahabharata, this movie was also called as a modern version of Mahabharata.

‘Mandyada Gandu’

It is through the film ‘Mandyada Gandu’ that late actor Ambareesh earned his title ‘Mandyada Gandu’ in Kannada film industry. This movie was directed by AT Raghu. ‘Mandyada Gandu’ song became a super hit and still remembered by everyone. The movie is about a farmer who got cheated by a landlord and his daughter. So, he decides to take revenge on them.

‘Ambi Ning Vayassaytho’

After 14 years, Ambareesh played the lead role in ‘Ambi Ning Vayassaytho’. Even though it is a remake of Tamil movie ‘Pa Paandi’ Ambareesh’s performance gained him appreciations from all quarters. This movie was directed by Gurudatta Ganiga, starring Suhasini Maniratnam against Ambareesh. This movie revolves around an old person played by Ambareesh, who wants to keep himself engaged in life after retirement. He gets into unwanted fights and brings the trouble to his family. So, he decides to leave the family and goes on a ride by telling his love stories from his earlier life. Finally, he meets his ex-girlfriend and stays happily with her. This movie became one of the biggest hit in Ambareesh’s career.
