Zubeen Garg's funeral: Wife Garima Saikia Garg breaks down during last rites; fans pay respect

Garima Saikia Garg, the wife of Zubeen Garg, mourned the artist’s unfortunate loss during the funeral proceedings at a crematorium in Kamarkuchi on the outskirts of Guwahati. She had been streaming her tears and sobbing throughout the rituals, as the pyre was being set up.

In the video shared by ANI, Garg’s wife had her hands joined and broke down at the heartbreaking sight, visibly shaken during the last rites. Garg’s younger sister, Palmee Borthakur, lit the funeral pyre and was joined by a digital creator and family friend, Arun Garg, and music composer Rahul Gautam Sharma. Following the rituals, they encircled seven times, while the Assam Police gave a gun salute to pay their respects. The fans bid goodbye to their favourite artist by reciting the famous song, ‘Mayabini.’ Assam’s Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, and the union ministers Kiren Rijiju and Sarbananda Sonowal joined the ritual by placing wood pieces on the pyre.

Zubeen Garg passed away on Friday, September 19, in Singapore after drowning in the sea while swimming with his close ones. The 52-year-old travelled to Singapore as he participated in the Narth East Festival, showcasing the regional culture. The post mortem was completed in Singapore, but the state decided to carry out a second post mortem, ruling out the chances of foul play. “The last time that I got to see beloved Zubeen. From now on he will live in Assam’s soul , mind and hearts...,” Assam’s chief minister Himanta Biswa Sarma wrote on X.

Garima Saikia Garg has been visibly torn after the unfortunate passing of the fan-favorite and a prominent singer. Previously, when the friends, family, and fans paid their final respects, she shed tears for her late husband while gently resting her hand on top of the casket.
