Marriage has changed me, not my music: Stebin Ben on emotional honesty and romance
Fresh off his marriage and new romantic track, Stebin Ben emphasizes that emotional sincerity, not personal relationship status, connects listeners to his music. He believes meaningful melodies will always endure beyond viral trends, and social media is increasing appreciation for singers. Ben also expresses a desire to explore diverse musical genres beyond his romantic image.
Fresh off his marriage and riding the wave of his latest romantic track Tera Ho Jaun, singer Stebin Ben says that while life may have entered a new chapter, the emotions that fuel his music remain unchanged. The singer, known for his heartbreak ballads and romantic hits, believes listeners connect with sincerity above all else. LOVE AFTER MARRIAGE With Tera Ho Jaun releasing soon after his wedding, many fans may expect a more settled, “happily-in-love” version of Stebin. But the singer insists that marriage has only deepened his emotional understanding. “Marriage changes you emotionally in a beautiful way, but it doesn’t take away your vulnerability,” he says. “Even when I sing about heartbreak or longing, or love, I try to honestly feel every emotion while recording. Tera Ho Jaun reflects a softer and more secure side of love, but at the core, the emotional honesty remains the same. I feel listeners connect more with sincerity than with whether you’re personally heartbroken or happily in love.” BEYOND VIRAL TRENDS At a time when songs are increasingly designed for reels and short-form content, Stebin remains confident that meaningful music will outlast fleeting trends.
“A song can go viral overnight, which is amazing, but timeless melodies always survive beyond trends. There is pressure because audiences consume music very quickly now, but emotions are never replaceable,” he says. “People remember songs and voices that genuinely made them feel something deeply. Trends may change, but emotional connection always stays.” RECOGNITION FOR PLAYBACK SINGERS Tera Ho Jaun is attached to a major film starring Varun Dhawan, Mrunal Thakur and Pooja Hegde, but Stebin believes audiences are now paying more attention to the voices behind the songs. “Actors have always been the visual face of songs, but social media has helped bridge the gap. Audiences today are becoming much more aware and appreciative of singers, composers and musicians behind the music. Social media has helped bridge that gap in a big way.BREAKING OUT OF LABELS Though celebrated as one of Bollywood's leading romantic voices, Stebin admits he is eager to explore newer musical territories. “I’m genuinely grateful for the love people have given me as a romantic voice because emotional music is something I connect with very naturally. But as an artist, of course I enjoy singing many different genres and styles. Even during my live performances we incorporate a lot of different stylse of songs. I would love to experiment more with darker emotional songs, sufi music, intense storytelling tracks, or even genres people may not expect from me. The real magic happens when you step outside those labels and surprise people.” STAYING GROUNDED Asked about the insecurities and uncertainties that often accompany a career in music, Stebin says his focus has shifted from chasing trends to nurturing his bond with music itself. “Success and trends keep changing,” he reflects. “Your connection with music and your audience is what truly gives you stability. Over time, I’ve realised that staying grounded and continuing to focus on the music itself is the only thing that keeps you going.
