In one sense, Kya Dilli... is a functional album, in that it ties in beautifully with the theme of the film. And since the topic is one close to legendary lyricist Gulzar’s heart, the songs are all that more heartfelt.

Quite intense stuff, this. The second song, Lakeerein, which features a short monologue by Gulzar, has singer Papon sing the words in a far less intense and somewhat uptempo fashion. It’s a song that will grow on most listeners as it is the most accessible. The biting sarcasm underlining the futility of conflict, is evident in the final poignant track off this four-track album. Ustad Hamid Ali Khan sings Kaleje Mein (Bina Dushman Akele Reh Gaya Hota) matter-of-factly. All in all, the album gets the job done but because it has to be situational in theme, lacks variety.
