When Rajpal Yadav denied taking any loan; 'It was an investment from a financer'
Rajpal Yadav has disproved reports claiming that the disputed amount was a loan, presenting his own account of the matter. He stated that the money was actually an investment from a businessman who intended to launch his grandson’s acting career in the film industry.
Earlier, during his appearance at Lallantop, “I received Rs 5 crore from Madhav Gopal Agarwal to make a film. I did not take it as a loan; he invested the money as a financer because he wanted to launch his grandson as the lead actor.”
Yadav landed in Tihar Jail after the Delhi High Court turned down his request for an extension to repay the dues linked to the cheque bounce cases. The pending amount is estimated to be close to Rs 9 crore.
Many members of the film fraternity have extended financial help to the family and encouraged others to contribute as well. Expressing gratitude for the support, Rajpal’s wife Radha Yadav told PTI, “Everybody has stood by him. The industry has been supportive. A big thank you to everyone who is coming forward to help."
Back in 2010, Yadav secured Rs 5 crore from M/s Murali Projects Pvt Ltd to produce his directorial debut ‘Ata Pata Laapata’, but the film turned out to be a box-office failure. Before turning himself in, he admitted to Bollywood Hungama that he had neither the money nor the means to clear the remaining dues. When questioned about seeking help from fellow actors, Yadav candidly said, "Everyone is on their own" in the industry.
