Suniel Shetty gets emotional as he shares his joy of becoming a grandfather: 'Seeing my Amma hold her great granddaughter in her arms...'
Veteran actor Suniel Shetty has always been admired for his grounded nature, and now, as he steps into a new chapter of his life, as a grandfather, he’s offering a deeper glimpse into his emotional world. In a heartwarming note shared on LinkedIn, the actor reflected on the joy of becoming a grandfather and how the simple moments in life often bring the truest happiness.
Opening up about his recent experience on LinkedIn, Suniel wrote, “It’s funny how life works. You spend years chasing things you think will make you happy. The right roles, the right deals, a larger office, more money, the perfect comeback, more recognition. More everything. But you know what I’ve learned? That real joy, mainly comes from the simplest of things."
He described holding his granddaughter for the first time as a feeling that transcends any success he's experienced over the years. “Becoming a grandfather recently - is a feeling I can’t even describe. It’s a happiness that’s pure and untouched by anything the world can give or take away. I’ve spent decades building and running businesses, making films, trying to create something meaningful. And I’m proud of that. But when I hold my granddaughter, none of that matters. The race to have more kind of fades when you come to that point in life where you realise what truly matters,” he shared.

Suniel also recalled the simplicity of his childhood days in Mangalore, barefoot games in open fields and meals made with love. These memories now take on new meaning, as he watches his daughter Athiya embrace motherhood and his mother hold her great-granddaughter in her arms. “And seeing my Amma hold her great granddaughter in her arms is the kind of moment that is now a core memory. I’ll never get over the beauty of such moments,” he wrote.
He continued, "Off late, my mind keeps going back to my childhood in Mangalore. The simplicity of those summers. Running around barefoot, playing in the open fields, eating the freshest meals made with nothing but love. The joy came from being with family, from nature, from laughter that didn’t cost a thing. Somewhere along the way, I got caught up in the chase. It happens to all of us at some stage in life. But with age, the more you experience, the clearer it becomes. It’s not about giving up ambition or working hard. It’s about understanding what truly brings you joy. I remain driven. There’s still so much left to achieve. But it’s just one part of me. I operate with far more clarity now. I’m clear now about what’s closest to my heart. I’ve seen the weight of always wanting more. It can steal your peace, bit by bit. You don’t even realise it’s happening until you pause and look around."

Suniel, who has juggled careers in cinema and business, admitted that the constant pursuit of “more” can quietly steal one's peace. But becoming a grandfather has grounded him in a new way. “Now, with this little one in my arms, seeing my Athiya transition into the most fulfilling role of her life, I find myself feeling lighter. More content,” he expressed.
He concluded with a powerful message, “It’s like a reminder from life, telling me to keep things simple. To cherish the everyday. To be free from the weight of wanting more. For me, that’s the luxury I’m truly grateful for.”
Suniel Shetty’s daughter, actor Athiya Shetty, and cricketer KL Rahul welcomed their baby girl on March 24, 2025. The couple announced the arrival of their daughter on Instagram with an adorable post featuring two swans and a caption that read, “Blessed with a baby girl,” along with the date and a baby angel emoji.
Suniel Shetty's upcoming projects include the period drama 'Kesari Veer', now slated for release on May 16, 2025. He acquired the rights to remake the Kannada hit 'Kirik Party' for his son Ahan Shetty and will play a pivotal role in 'Welcome to the Jungle', directed by Ahmed Khan. Additionally, he is reprising his iconic role in 'Hera Pheri 3', with filming underway and an expected release in 2027.
