'Mirzapur’ tales: Vikrant Massey remembers his journey; says, 'None of them expected the show to become the massive hit'

Vikrant Massey is gearing up for a milestone in his career as he receives the prestigious National Award for Best Actor for his remarkable performance in '12th Fail'. The honour not only celebrates his talent but also his inspiring journey in cinema.

Looking back, Vikrant recently shared that one of the biggest turning points in his career came with 'Mirzapur'. The show’s release, he said, completely changed the course of his professional life and opened up new opportunities for him.

Mirzapur’s unplanned success

In a candid chat on the iQOO Quest Talk podcast, Vikrant recalled his experience working on 'Mirzapur'. He said that the cast, including Pankaj Tripathi, Ali Fazal, Divyenndu, and Rasika Dugal, treated it like any other project, simply enjoying their time on set. None of them expected the show to become the massive hit it eventually did. “It was a first of its kind, you know. The OTT platforms had just started blooming, ek naya model test ho raha tha. And it was just a bunch of boys who went out there and had fun, who wanted to tell a good story."

Life-changing moment

The actor also shared that he was taken aback by the overwhelming response when 'Mirzapur' premiered at midnight. At the time, he was in Lucknow shooting for Ram Prasad Ki Tehrvi (2019). Within just 12 hours of the release, he felt his life had completely changed. By the time he reached the set the next day, a large crowd of fans had already gathered outside, eager to catch a glimpse of him after recognising him from the show.

Professional front

He has several interesting projects lined up. Vikrant is set to portray spiritual leader Sri Sri Ravi Shankar in the upcoming global thriller 'White', with filming starting in August 2025.

Recently, he was seen in 'Aankhon Ki Gustakhiyan', a love story directed by Santosh Singh and based on a book by Ruskin Bond, where he starred opposite newbie Shanaya Kapoor.

The actor has consistently impressed audiences with his performances across films and television. In 2024 alone, he appeared in four back-to-back projects: 'Blackout', 'Phir Aayi Hasseen Dillruba', 'Sector 36', and 'The Sabarmati Report'.
