Meet Sunjay Kapur's stepdaughter, Safira: Will she get a share in his Rs 30,000 crore fortune?
Sunjay Kapur passed away on 12 June 2025, over a month later, the attention on him is still intense, this time over a reported inheritance dispute within his family. His mother, Rani Kapur, raised doubts about his sudden demise, which was reported as a cardiac arrest. She also hinted that someone may be trying to take over the family’s legacy. The spotlight soon shifted to Sunjay’s third wife, Priya Sachdev Kapur.

Priya and Safira change their names?

Priya has been appointed as the non-executive director of Sona Comstar, the family’s business. Reports claim that she changed her name to ‘Priya Sunjay Kapur’. It’s also said that her daughter, Safira, from her first marriage, dropped the surname ‘Chatwal’ and adopted ‘Kapur’. While this hasn’t been confirmed, the change has sparked many theories. Safira’s Instagram doesn’t show any surname, and Priya’s handle reads ‘Priya S Kapur’, so it could mean ‘Sunjay’ or ‘Sachdev’.

Who is Safira, Sunjay’s stepdaughter?

Priya Sachdev married Vikram Chatwal in 2006. They had a daughter, Safira, in 2007. However, the couple faced problems and divorced in 2011. Later, Priya married Sunjay Kapur. As reported by BollywoodShaadis, Sunjay legally adopted Safira according to Indian law.
She lived with Sunjay and Priya, and their Instagram posts showed them as one family. Priya and Sunjay had a son, Azarius, in 2018. Safira, now 19 years old, is currently studying at Marlborough College in England. She’s said to be interested in geopolitical issues and international relations.

Will Safira get a share in Sunjay’s fortune?

There’s been a lot of talk about whether Safira will inherit anything from Sunjay’s Rs 30,000 crore estate. According to News18 Showsha, under Indian law, a stepchild doesn’t get anything unless legally adopted. But if Sunjay did adopt her, and it’s documented, she would be a legal heir just like his other children. However, there’s a catch, if Safira were legally adopted by Sunjay, she might lose the right to inherit from her biological father, Vikram Chatwal. And if there’s no official will, her place in the inheritance is still unclear.

Karisma Kapoor is not part of the dispute

While rumours swirled that Karisma Kapoor might have a say in the property matters, a family source spoke to ETimes and cleared the air. “Karisma Kapoor is not involved in any inheritance or property-related matters,” said the source. “She has no claim, nor is she seeking any share in the estate. Her only concern is the well-being and future of her children.”

Samaira and Kiaan are rightful heirs

Karisma and Sunjay got married in 2003 and parted ways in 2016. They have two children together, Samaira and Kiaan. According to the family source, “The children will receive what is due to them.” They are the rightful heirs to their late father’s estate. “Karisma’s focus remains entirely on them,” the source added.

Priya and son Azarius also included

Since Priya was Sunjay’s wife when he passed away, she too has a claim to his estate. Their son, Azarius, being his biological child, is also a rightful heir. And if Safira’s adoption is legally valid, she could be included in the list of heirs too.

Sunjay’s mother questions his sudden demise

Adding more tension to the situation, Sunjay’s mother, Rani Kapur, has raised serious questions. In a statement to ANI, she said, “I still don’t know what happened to my son. I’m old now, and I need closure before I go.” She also said, “Our family legacy must not be lost. It must be passed on as my husband always wanted it to be.”
