​Meenakshi Seshadri reflects on 40 years of 'Hero', says ‘I expected a good response’

Meenakshi Seshadri found herself reminiscing her meteoric rise to fame with her iconic film 'Hero' clocking its 40th anniversary. The actress revealed the unexpected twist that ensued following the movie's release.

Reflecting on the film's impact on her career, Seshadri, in an exclusive interview with News18 Showsha, revisited the unforgettable days shooting for the movie and the pivotal role it played in revitalizing romantic cinema.

"Hero made a powerful impact on the audience," she said and added that it broke the dry spell that followed the era of romantic hits.

The movie not only propelled Seshadri and Jackie Shroff into the spotlight, but also brought an unforeseen wave of recognition for the young actress. Expressing her surprise over the sudden change in her life, she shared, "I anticipated a positive response to the film, but the sudden recognition was unexpected."

She admitted that the newfound fame overnight at just the age of 21, "was quite a leap."

Interestingly, she also revealed that Subhash Ghai initially had different stars in mind for his cast. She claimed that the director was considering Kamal Haasan for the lead opposite Seshadri, but the role eventually went to Shroff, who became a sensation post the movie's success.

Touching upon her experience working with Ghai, Seshadri praised his balanced approach, which in turn allowed her artistic expression to flourish. "Subhash ji trusted my classical dance background, giving me creative freedom, despite this being my second film," she noted.

After nearly three decades, Seshadri will soon be back under the spotlight. She teased her comeback to the silver screen during her appearance on 'Jhalak Dikhlaja', making fans of the film excited to see her back in action.
