KOLKATA: Eminent poet-lyricist Gulzaris re-adapting a Tagore song in the dubbed Hindi version of veteran filmdirector Mrinal Sen''s new venture (My land).
"I am happy the way he is undertaking thetransliteration of the only Tagore song number in the film'' recapturingthe nuances and implications of the original title," Sen told on Sunday.
Hesaid it was to be seen to believe the amount of involvement of the soft-spokenMumbai-based film personality who discussed the lines of the song for hours withhim and was a perfectionist in that sense.
"It is amazing how the wholeidea of transliterating Gurudev''s Bengali lines has caught his imagination.Recently he made seven calls in as many days just to discuss every single wordand syllable with me and my music director despite himself procuring a cassetteof the number," Sen said.
Debajyoti Mishra is the music director of Sen''sfilm.
The song has been used twice in the film, rendered with greatcommitment by well-known Bengali singer Srikanta Acharya, once withinstrumentation and at another time in bare voice.
However Gulzar, thecomposer of melodious tunes like '''' (), has not yet zeroedon the singer of the ''transliterated numbers'' in the dubbed version.
"Itis his domain. But he feels someone, having proper Hindi pronunciation besideshaving sensibility for Tagore''s lines, should fill the slot," Sen said.
