Rs 1000 crore directors of Indian Cinema

As Cinema grows with time so does its business. There was a time when a film reaching Rs 100 crore was the ultimate goal but now that has become bland, the new number to chase is Rs 1000 crore and there are quite a few directors who have pulled off this feat and some have done it twice.

2/7

Dangal- Nitesh Tiwari

Aamir Khan was riding high on the success of PK after which he decided to go ahead with Nitesh Tiwari’s Dangal where he played the wrestler Mahavir Phogat. But it wasn’t his story, the film was taken forward by Sanya Malhotra and Fatime Sana Sheikh who played his daughter who fulfilled his dream of winning a gold medal for the country. The film touched a raw nerve not only in India but across the globe and earned more than Rs 2000 crore at the box office.

Bahubali 2- The Conclusion - SS Rajamouli

SS Rajamouli was the brain and heart behind the massive Bahubali franchise which took more than 5 years to make the two part film. The film blurred the lines between Hindi and regional cinema and made Prabhas and SS Rajamouli true representatives of Indian Cinema. The second installment came about two years after the release of the first installment and throughout these two years everyone had the same question on their lips of why did Katappa kill Bahubali? The film collected about Rs 1800 crore at the box office across the globe.
4/7

RRR- SS Rajamouli

After Bahubali, SS Rajamouli became THE director to look out for. Everyone was keen to know what he would do next and will he live up to the expectations after delivering a massive hit. He chose a fictional tale of two freedom fighters played by Ram Charan and Jr NTR and set the box office on fire. His film also won the Oscar for Best Original Song this year. The film made about Rs 1300 at the box office.

5/7

KGF 2- Prashanth Neel

This film with Yash in the lead can truly be called the dark horse of this club, there wasn’t much buzz about the film when the first part was released, the Hindi theatrical rights were picked up by Farhan Akhtar and Ritesh Sidhwani. But like a bomb waiting to explode, director Prashanth Neel captured everyone’s imagination and got them involved in the journey of Rocky Bhai. Part 1 of the film had got everyone on the edge of the seat and when part 2 released everyone just took to it and the film went on to collect Rs 1250 crore across the globe.

6/7

Pathaan- Siddharth Anand

Siddharth Anand began his career with a rom-com like Salaam Namaste but it was with films like Bang Bang and War that he was able to find his strong footing in the industry. He was then handed the responsibility of comeback of Shah Rukh Khan with Pathaan. SRK had stayed away from the big screen for nearly 4 years and when the two of them came together, the box office records were rewritten. The film went on to collect Rs 1050 crore across the globe and it is still being released in different parts of the world .

7/7

Jawan - Atlee

What a year SRK is having, after Pathaan he teamed up with one of the most successful directors from Tamil Cinema, Atlee. Together they not only made a political statement in cinematic language but delivered the thrill , the fights, the drama and the emotion that one has become very used to in the post pandemic world and from Shah Rukh Khan’s last release Pathaan. The film has been re-writing box office records since the day 1 and it is now in the hunt to become the highest earning Hindi film. The film has already earned Rs 1023 crore across the globe.
