'Laalo' Hindi release: Karan Joshi opens up on the dubbing process; says, 'It was good, but it wasn’t connecting'

The Hindi version of 'Laalo – Krishna Sada Sahaayate' has been getting a lot of love from people. Many are talking about how natural the film feels in Hindi. In a recent interview, the director Karan Joshi opened up on the experience of the dubbing process.In a promotional interview with India Forums, director Karan Joshi spoke openly about the dubbing process. He explained why the team finally chose to dub the film in their own voices instead of using studio voice artists. He said dubbing is very important when a rooted story goes to a wider audience.The actor who plays the role of 'Laalo' clearly said the first Hindi dub was done very well. Furthermore, the lead actress Reeva added, “They actually got it dubbed with proper voice-over artists, and they did a very good job.” He added that while they were travelling for Gujarat tours, Ankit Bhai showed them the Hindi dub. “No doubt, it was looking very good.” But after watching the film so many times in Gujarati, the team felt something was missing. He said they started thinking, why not use their own voices.Watch the video hereKaran Joshi shared how the plan slowly changed. He said, “Ankit Bhai said, ‘Listen, we are travelling, and this is a very time-consuming and serious job.’” At first, Karan agreed to drop the idea. Later, Ankit Bhai suggested something else. “Let’s do one thing you dub all three characters in your own voice.” They took a couple of days and dubbed in Hindi. After showing it to many people, the response was mixed at first. He said, “It was good, but it wasn’t connecting.”The big change came with one simple thought. Karan Joshi said, “If someone watches the film and comes to Junagadh and sits in a rickshaw, he’s not speaking that language. He’s speaking Laalo’s language.” He spoke about “Baba Hindi” and how real people speak with accents. He said, “That is not a bad thing. That is a proud thing.” The team decided to keep the Gujarati touch in Hindi. After that, everyone felt the same. “After the dubbing, people saw it and everyone said, ‘This is better.’”The Hindi adaptation of 'Laalo' competed with 'Dhurandhar' and 'The Raja Saab'.
