Crafting experiences, handmade memories: Mother’s Day gets a creative twist
From hands-on creative workshops to curated outings, children across age groups are planning special surprises for their mothers.
Workshops have emerged as a popular choice. Across the city, experiences such as punch needling, flower-making, pottery, tile mosaic art and cheese board styling are drawing attention. These activities offer a break from routine while allowing mothers and children to bond over shared creativity.
Curators and workshop hosts are reimagining these sessions to make them more meaningful. “For Mother’s Day, I am designing workshops that are not just craft sessions but shared experiences between the mother & child — something emotional, memorable, and Instagram-worthy. This year I am planning for 3D lifecasting memory. It’s a great way to make memories, and I have quirky hoop portraits for moms which they can create for themselves,” says Bhakti Shah, a workshop curator.
Organisers are also noticing a shift in how the day is celebrated. “Painting, flower-making, pottery, and punch needling workshops are especially popular this time of year. Kids now feel the urge to take their moms out on this special day and make her feel valued. They truly want to pamper her and it feels good to see how tables have turned,” says Meera Nagda, founder of Art by Meera.
For many mothers, the gesture matters more than grandeur. “Spending uninterrupted time with my
daughter is the greatest gift I could ask for. We rarely get that in our busy schedules, so I have planned a pottery workshop with my 10-year-old daughter. It will be the first time we will be attending any workshop together,” says Kavya Sharma, a chartered accountant.
“I love the idea of these workshops. It’s not just about learning something new, but about creating memories together. For the past two years I have made it a point to take my 65-year-old mother to various kinds of workshops on Mother’s Day. This year we plan to go for a textured art workshop. She really enjoys such activities and it gives me joy to see her be a kid again,” shares Ritu Shreshta, a school teacher.
Children, too, are putting in thoughtful effort. “I’ve secretly booked a pottery workshop for my mom. She’s always wanted to try it, and I think she’ll be really surprised,” says Ishita Verma, a college student.
