Stebin Ben on performing at JDMC: Crowd’s energy gave goosebumps
It wasn’t Dilli ki sardi but the students’ energy at Janki Devi Memorial College that gave Stebin Ben chills as he performed before an enthusiastic college crowd
With a medley of some of Bollywood’s most-loved songs, Stebin Ben took Delhi students by storm as he performed on the concluding day of Janki Devi Memorial College’s (JDMC) annual fest Symphony. Organised in offline mode after two years, the fest marked the beginning of Delhi University’s festival calendar. The Thoda Thoda Pyaar singer got the college students grooving to his tunes.
From his soothing rendition of Kesariya and raising the roof with Rock On to O O Jaane Ja Na, the singer’s palpable energy reached everyone in the jam-packed precinct of the college. Talking to us after his performance, he said, “Delhi has always been the best. Jab bhi main Dilli aata hun, toh energy crazy hoti hai. But I have never experienced what I did today. I got goosebumps. The JDMC crowd was exceptional.”
‘It was an incredible experience’
“Stebin’s energy and quirks on stage were the highlight of the night,” say a group of girls, who were cheering for him as he danced to dhol beats, making fans feel special on the festival of Lohri. “Humare Dilli mein jab tak dhol nahi bajta, party shuru nahi hoti,” he said.
Aditi Sharma, a member of the student union, had a fan girl moment, when Stebin called a few students to join him on stage and danced with them. “I was so overwhelmed. It was the best evening of my life.” Ananya Narang, the Vice President of the college, felt lucky too. “I couldn’t stop blushing! It was an incredible experience”
“Students were waiting for this. We encourage students to take part in these cultural events, the participation was huge this time. And Stebin’s show was a rocking end to the three-day fest,” said Rajyalakshmi, the staff advisor of the student union, who was happy with the fest’s comeback after two years.
‘Looking forward to the rest of 2023, it is going to be about good changes’
When we caught the Baarish Ban Jaana singer for a quick chat, he said that he hoped the year is going to be about good changes. “I am working on myself to go all out. Meri awaaz toh logon tak pahunch gayi hai, now I want them to know me and my face,” he said, sharing his plans to feature in his upcoming music videos.
