Taylor Swift's 'The Tortured Poets Department' dominates Billboard 200 for sixth consecutive week
Taylor Swift continues to dominate the charts as her album, "The Tortured Poets Department," claims its sixth consecutive week at the top of the Billboard 200. Despite a slight decline in sales, the album still managed to rack up an impressive 175,000 equivalent album units in the U.S. for the week ending May 30, according to Luminate.
This feat makes "Tortured Poets" the first album since Morgan Wallen's "One Thing at a Time" to spend its first six weeks at No. 1. Swift now ties her own record, previously held by "Folklore," for the most weeks at No. 1 from its debut, with six weeks each.
With 175,000 units earned in its sixth week, "Tortured Poets" achieved the largest sixth-week performance since Adele's "25" back in 2016.
Swift also adds another milestone to her illustrious career, notching her 75th week at No. 1 on the Billboard 200, extending her lead among soloists. Meanwhile, in the top 10, Twenty One Pilots' "Clancy" makes a strong debut at No. 3, marking the biggest week for any rock album in 2024.
Billboard's charts are compiled based on a combination of album sales, track equivalent albums, and streaming equivalent albums. Swift's "Tortured Poets" saw a significant portion of its units coming from streaming, with SEA units accounting for 133,000.
Elsewhere in the top 10, Billie Eilish's "Hit Me Hard and Soft" holds steady at No. 2, while RM's "Right Place, Wrong Person" debuts at No. 5, marking his second solo top 10-charting album.
The success of "Clancy" was driven by its availability across various formats, including vinyl variants and deluxe editions, while "Right Place, Wrong Person" benefited from the popularity of its lead single, "Come Back to Me," and a range of CD variants.
For Swift, "Tortured Poets" represents another milestone in a career defined by chart-topping success and musical innovation. From her early days as a country-pop sensation to her evolution into a global pop icon, Swift continues to captivate audiences with her storytelling prowess and undeniable talent. With each release, she solidifies her status as one of the most influential artists of her generation, leaving an indelible mark on the music industry and popular culture at large.
