'Lonely' music video: Justin Bieber drops his most personal and emotional ballad on his vulnerable childhood
Justin Bieber is not holding back on the emotions in his latest single ‘Lonely’.
In what may just be one of his most personal songs yet, the singer croons about his vulnerable childhood and living some of his tough and trying times in the media glare. “And maybe that's the price you pay; for the money and fame at an early age,” he croons in the emotionally-packed verse.
It is, however, the chorus that hits home with the star singing about having everything that comes with fame, but not having a person to call. “What if you had it all but nobody to call? Maybe then you'd know me; 'cause I've had everything, but no one's listening and that's just f***ing lonely”
Sharing the song, Bieber said, “#Lonely is out now with @itsbennyblanco. To be honest the song is hard for me to listen to considering how tough it was to get through some of these chapters. I believe it is powerful to express vulnerability and that’s why I believe this song is so powerful.”
The music video features actor Jacob Tremblay playing a young Bieber, dressed in the singer’s famous all-white outfit with a purple hoodie from his ‘Never Say Never’. The video starts with Jacob sitting alone back-stage before walking through an empty hallway out to a theatre stage and deserted stands. The only person sitting in the audience is the current-day Justin.
“@JacobTremblay is so talented. It was emotional to see him play me from the outside looking in #LonelyVideo,” Justin tweeted.
Last month, the singer dropped his song 'Holy' featuring Chance The Rapper. The song that appealed for humanity and hope, came in months after the singer launched his hit track ‘Yummy’ in January 2020.
