Conner Smith’s musical return after car collision tragedy: ‘I didn't care about my career or image or reputation'

Connoer Smith is finally making a comeback to the world of country music after the fatal car crash that took the life of Dorothy Dobbins last year. In one of his recent interviews, the singer weighed in on how bad the time was and how at one point, he had lost all hope in life and what he wanted to do next.While talking to PEOPLE about how his life was following the car crash, he cited that nothing mattered to him in his life anymore. He added that “I didn't care about my career or image or reputation or even how I would ever come back from this. I just really didn't care because it just didn't matter.”“In those moments, you see that every side of your life is on fire,” he further quoted, adding that what Dobbins’ family was going through at the time was ten times worse and was put ‘first’ ahead of anything else. "It was no longer about how many tickets I sell or how many streams a song gets or about whether my songs are respected in the upper echelon of critical acclaim," he added.Not only that, but the incident also left Smith unsure about his future and with a lot of questions. He quipped that "you can't comprehend it. And those questions will linger. There are never going to be answers to why something that tragic would happen or why I was on that road in that second.”During the interview, he also shared that Leah, his wife, was there for him through everything and was his biggest supporter. “In terms of our marriage, the truth was that all this did was just solidifying and unifying it more than anything ever could. She is such a rock. This tragedy reminded me of every reason I chose her as my wife. She embodies peace,” he concluded.Dorothy Dobbins was a 77-year-old lawyer and pedestrian who had been walking on the crosswalk in the Germantown area of Nashville. In June last year, she was hit by a car that proved to be fatal for her. Conner Smith was driving a Chevrolet Silverado pickup truck at the time. In February earlier this year, at the request of her family, all charges against the country singer were completely dropped, and he was not charged with any crime.Smith will be returning to perform at select shows of Thomas Rhett’s tour, ‘The Soundtrack to Life Tour.’
