Melora Hardin on why she was fired from ‘Back to the Future’

In an interview with Entertainment Weekly, the star actress shared how she was originally cast to play the role of Marty’s girlfriend in the film. Eric Stoltz's firing from the show also led the production team to fire her and recast another actress for the role, which broke her heart at the time. She further added, “‘Back to the Future’ was a huge disappointment. I was 17, you know. I burst into tears. It was very sad. There were quite a few of those that I remember, you know, things that never really got made. But that I remember being very tough.”She also shared that after Michael J. Fox was cast as Marty, the production team thought that she was too tall for the role, compared to her co-star. She further shared that while this was all a huge disappointment, it also led her to one of her most popular roles of all time in ‘The Office.’
“It was apparently the two female executives at the time that thought that it was emasculating for their lead male character to be in scenes with a woman that was taller than him. If I had done it, I’m sure it would have all gone in a different way. I wouldn’t have done ‘The Office’”, the actress added on.

Melora Hardin on the importance of failure

The actress also talked about how a person should be comfortable with failure and get used to it to make it in life. Drawing on her own experiences, the actress added that “That failure doesn’t mean anything about you. You just have to fail better, and keep failing better … to be able to really weather this career choice.”
