TRIGGER WARNING: This article includes references to sexual abuse.Two more offences are put on against the comedian and actor Russell Brand. These include fresh counts of rape and sexual assault.
As reported by Deadline the new charges are linked to two additional women.
Earlier Russell Brand was already facing charges of rape, indecent assault, and sexual assault. With the latest update the case against him has grown bigger and more serious.
Reports say that the police confirmed that the investigation is still active.
Court dates and legal process
Russell Brand is set to appear in court on January 20, 2026 for the new charges. After this appearance the trial for the earlier charges will begin six months later.
Russell has already pleaded not guilty to the previous charges that were marked against him. He has denied all accusations that were made against him so far. He has said that he is grateful for the chance to defend himself in court. He will remain on conditional bail until the trial.
Police statement and ongoing probe
According to the sources the Metropolitan Police said that the women who made the complaints are receiving support. Specially trained officers are helping them during the process.
The police also asked others to come forward by sharing a message. They police insisted that anyone who has any kind of information about the case should speak with them. The investigation has not been closed yet.
How the case first came to light
The case was charged against the actor two years back and at that time he was charged with multiple offences including rape and sexual assault. Also earlier this year Russell denied all the allegations when he appeared before the London Court.
After a television documentary and newspaper investigation the allegations became public during the year 2023. In that program five women shared their stories. Four of them chose to remain anonymous.
