Uma Thurman returns to the screen in fierce form in the first trailer for ‘Pretty Lethal.’ Prime Video has unveiled a tense preview of the survival action thriller, where a group of elite ballerinas battle for their lives inside a remote roadside inn. Thurman plays a former dance prodigy turned unhinged inn owner who traps the young dancers after their bus breaks down in a forest on the way to a major competition.
‘Pretty Lethal’ trailer reveals Uma Thurman as ruthless villain
As reported by Variety, Prime Video’s ‘Pretty Lethal’ follows five dancers played by Maddie Ziegler from ‘My Old Ass,’ Lana Condor of ‘To All the Boys I’ve Loved Before,’ Iris Apatow from ‘This Is 40,’ Avantika from ‘Mean Girls,’ and Millicent Simmonds of ‘A Quiet Place.’ Their trip to a prestigious competition takes a dark turn when their bus stalls in a remote wooded area. With no help in sight, they seek shelter at an isolated inn run by Devora Kasimer, played by Thurman.
The trailer moves quickly from polite introductions to outright terror. Kasimer appears welcoming at first, but something feels wrong. The mood shifts fast as the dancers realize they are trapped. Violence erupts inside the inn, and the young women must rely on their training to survive. They use their footwork and flexibility as weapons. In one striking scene, a pointe shoe becomes a tool for defense.
Director Vicky Jewson, who previously helmed ‘The Witcher: Blood Origin,’ describes the project as “a genre mash-up that moves between horror, comedy and action.” The script comes from Kate Freund. Kelly McCormick, whose credits include ‘Bullet Train’ and ‘Violent Night,’ serves as producer.
Survival thriller premieres at SXSW before Prime Video release
‘Pretty Lethal’ will premiere at SXSW, a major annual festival held in Austin, Texas, on March 13. The film then streams globally on Prime Video beginning March 25.
