Bhojpuri renditions of hit Bollywood songs

Bollywood is undoubtedly the biggest cinema industry in India. But that does not discount the importance of regional cinema. That said, the Bhojpuri film industry is also important because of its wide reach in rural India. Many B-town stars such as Amitabh Bachchan, Mithun Chakraborty, Dharmendra, Shatrughan Sinha and many more have made a film or two in the Bhojpuri industry. Mainly known for its item songs, Bhojpuri cinema became one of the fastest growing industries in India. Here are some hit Bollywood songs which also have a Bhojpuri rendition.

Lungi Dance

Shah Rukh Khan and Deepika Padukone's ‘Lungi Dance’ from the Bollywood blockbuster ‘Chennai Express’, was an instant hit when it released. The song in the Rohit Shetty directorial was a tribute to megastar Rajinikanth and was sung by famous rapper Honey Singh. At the time, ‘Chennai Express’ became the highest grossing Bollywood film, both in India and around the world. It currently stands as the eleventh highest-grossing Bollywood film worldwide.

Sun Raha Ba Na Tu

The original version of 'Sun Raha Ba Na Tu' featured in the hit Bollywood film ‘Aashiqui 2’, starring Aditya Roy Kapur and Shraddha Kapoor in the leads. The film achieved commercial success at the box office.The reprised version of the song featured in the film ‘Sunn Raha Hai’ and topped music charts across in India.

Baby Doll Mein Sunwa Ki

'Babydoll' is a Punjabi song sung by Kanika Kapoor for the Bollywood movie ‘Ragini MMS 2’ featuring Sunny Leone in the lead. For the song, singer Kanika won the Best Female Playback Singer award. 'Ragini MMS 2', the erotic horror film directed by Bhushan Patel and co-produced by Jayasinh Gupta, was a sequel of the horror movie ‘Ragini MMS’. The film was a major commercial success and was declared a hit at the box office.

Touhri Humri, Humri Touhri Prem Kahaani

The song 'Touhri Humri, Humri Touhri Prem Kahaani' is a Bhojpuri rendition to 'Teri Meri Meri Teri Prem Kahani' from Salman Khan’s blockbuster film ‘Bodyguard’ which released in 2011. The film was a remake of director Siddique’s own 2010 Malayalam film of the same name. Produced by Atul Agnihotri and Alvira Khan Agnihotri, it featured Salman Khan and Kareena Kapoor in lead roles, with Aditya Pancholi in a special appearance. The film broke many records upon its release. It also made a record for the highest grossing opening week Bollywood film then.

Hey Babuni

‘Hey Babuni’ is a Bhojpuri version of the title song of the hit Bollywood film ‘Heyy Babyy’. It was a romantic-comedy, starring Akshay Kumar, Fardeen Khan, Vidya Balan, Riteish Deshmukh, Juanna Sanghvi and Boman Irani. It was a big hit abroad, opening to favourable responses and taking the second biggest Hindi film opening in the UK then. ‘Heyy Babyy’ was directed by Sajid Khan and produced by Sajid Nadiadwala.

Character Dheela Ba

The original version of 'Character Dheela Ba' featured in the Bollywood film ‘Ready’, starring Salman Khan and Asin Thottumkal in lead roles. The song was composed by Pritam, while the background score was composed by Sandeep Shirodkar. 'Ready' was the second highest opening day grosser, as well as the second highest weekend grossing Bollywood film, after ‘Dabangg’ at the time. Some famous Bollywood actors also made a cameo appearance in the film such as Sanjay Dutt, Ajay Devgn, Kangana Ranaut, Zarine Khan and Arbaaz Khan. It holds the record for being second highest grossing Bollywood film of 2011.
