Swastika Mukherjee, known for her work in Bengali cinema and Hindi projects like ‘Paatal Lok’ and ‘Qala’, recently revealed that she won’t be able to cast her vote in the West Bengal Assembly Elections 2026. Speaking candidly, she shared that her name is missing from the voter list and she couldn’t complete the required formalities in time, continuing a frustrating issue she has been dealing with since 2024.
Swastika shared with News18 Bangla that this isn’t the first time she has faced such a problem. Back in 2024, both she and her sister Ajopa Mukherjee were unable to vote. While Swastika had misplaced her voter ID card, her sister, despite having valid identification, also couldn’t exercise her right, raising concerns about discrepancies in the electoral system.
Talking about the situation, Swastika said, “I am certain that my name is not on the voter list. To make my name appear on the list, I have to make calls to a few people and stay at home during that process. I did not have the time or the opportunity to do those things.” She added that she hopes to resolve the issue before the next election cycle.
Swastika Mukherjee's past frustration shared on social mediaIn 2024, the actor had also taken to social media to express her disappointment. “While I lost my Voter ID card, my sister Ajopa has her I-card and she voted last year. This year, our names are not there on the electoral roll. I have never seen anything more disgusting than this,” she wrote, highlighting her frustration with the system.
Swastika further pointed out inconsistencies in the voter list, stating, “Not only our parents but the other elderly people, who are practically immobile, are there on the list. People who have not been alive for years are still there on the list. But our names are not there.” Her remarks bring attention to possible flaws in maintaining updated electoral records.
