NDA, BJP lead in Assam, Puducherry and West Bengal as counting progresses
Across four state assemblies, counting is well underway with leads shifting seat by seat. In Assam, where 64 seats are needed for a majority in the 126-seat house, NDA has won 28 seats and is leading in 69 more, taking its tally to 97, which already crosses the majority mark if those leads hold. Congress and its allies are trailing with a tally of 22, while candidates from other parties and independents cumulatively account for 7 seats in the state. In Tamil Nadu, the 234-seat assembly requires 118 for a majority. SPA holds a tally of 60, with 7 won and 53 leads. NDA is trailing with a tally of 55. Candidates from other parties and independents cumulatively lead in Tamil Nadu with a tally of 115, just 3 short of the majority mark, though no confirmed majority has been reached yet. In West Bengal, BJP is leading in enough seats to cross the majority mark of 148 in the 294-seat house, with 11 seats won and 168 leads giving it a tally of 179. TMC is trailing with a tally of 106, comprising 2 won and 104 leading seats. Candidates from other parties and independents cumulatively account for 8 seats in West Bengal. In Puducherry, where 16 seats are needed for a majority in the 30-seat assembly, NDA has won 13 and is leading in 5 more for a tally of 18, crossing the majority mark if those leads hold. SPA has a tally of 5, with 2 won and 3 leading, while candidates from other parties and independents cumulatively hold a tally of 7 in the union territory.
