NDA, BJP lead in Assam, Puducherry and West Bengal as counting progresses
Across four state assemblies, counting is well underway with leads shifting as rounds progress. In Assam, where 64 seats are needed for a majority in the 126-seat house, NDA holds a tally of 97, having won 28 and leading in 69 more, crossing the majority mark on current trends. Congress and its allies are at a tally of 22, all leads with no seats declared yet, while candidates from other parties or independents cumulatively account for a tally of 7 in the state. In Tamil Nadu, the 234-seat assembly requires 118 for a majority. SPA has a tally of 60, with 7 won and 53 leading, while NDA stands at a tally of 55 seats, all leads. Candidates from other parties or independents cumulatively lead across seats adding to a tally of 115, still 3 short of the majority mark if those leads hold. West Bengal, the largest contest with 294 seats and a majority mark of 148, sees BJP leading in enough seats to cross the threshold, holding a tally of 179 with 11 won and 168 leading. TMC trails with a tally of 106, comprising 2 won and 104 leading, while candidates from other parties or independents cumulatively account for a tally of 8 in the state. In Puducherry, where 16 seats decide the majority in the 30-seat house, NDA has a tally of 18 with 13 seats already won and 5 leads still in progress, crossing the majority mark on current numbers. SPA has a tally of 5, while candidates from other parties or independents cumulatively hold a tally of 7 seats in the union territory.
