NDA, BJP lead in Assam, Puducherry and West Bengal as counting progresses
Across four state assemblies, counting is well underway with leads shaping up in Assam, Tamil Nadu, West Bengal, and Puducherry. In Assam, where 64 seats are needed for a majority in the 126-seat house, NDA holds a tally of 97, having won 28 and leading in 69 more, comfortably crossing the majority mark on current trends. Congress and its allies are trailing with a tally of 22 seats. Candidates from other parties and independents cumulatively account for a tally of 7 in Assam. In Tamil Nadu, the majority mark stands at 118 in a 234-seat assembly. SPA holds a tally of 60, with 7 won and 53 leads, while NDA is trailing with a tally of 55. Independent and smaller party candidates cumulatively lead in enough seats to bring their tally to 115, still 3 short of the majority mark if those leads hold. In West Bengal, BJP leads the 294-seat contest with a tally of 179, having won 11 and leading in 168, crossing the majority mark of 148 on present numbers. TMC is trailing with a tally of 106. Candidates from other parties and independents cumulatively hold a tally of 8 in West Bengal. In Puducherry, NDA has won 13 and leads in 5 more for a tally of 18 in the 30-seat house, crossing the majority mark of 16 on current figures. SPA has a tally of 5, with 2 won and 3 leads.
