CPM responsible for BJP’s growth, says Chandy

Thiruvananthapuram: CPM is the single reason for the present growth of BJP in Kerala, said chief minister Oommen Chandy. In a Facebook post, the chief minister said that the analysis of the vote share in two constituencies during 2011 elections could prove this. The LDF had lost votes in Nemom and Manjeswaram and the BJP’s presence had increased.
The chief minister said that BJP – which never had a chance in Kerala – grew under the CPM’s shadow.Wherever BJP grew, the CPM lost its votes, he claimed.
“In 2011 assembly elections, the UDF had a vote share of 17.38% and it grew to 27.10% in the 2104 Lok Sabha election. For BJP, the figures increased from 37.49% in the assembly election to 42.10% in the Lok Sabha election. The LDF vote was 43.02 in the assembly election and it came down to 26.33% in the Lok Sabha elections,” said Chandy.
The LDF failed miserably in the Thiruvananthapuram Lok Sabha election as they had fielded a candidate who was caught in the ‘payment seat’ controversy. “The LDF fielded a weak candidate to help BJP. The UDF could win the election as it fielded a powerful candidate,” he said. He ridiculed the CPM leadership for alleging links between the party and BJP. “In Bihar assembly election, the CPM formed a third front against the broad alliance, which included Congress and other parties, to defeat the BJP. But CPM move divided the anti-BJP votes,” said the chief minister.
