Ecologist Nulkar highlights women’s role in water and resource management for a sustainable future
PUNE: The Empower HER Foundation held its annual lecture, aimed at educating young girls and women about the vital importance of water and the need for sustainable practices in daily life.
Speaking at the event, renowned ecologist Dr. Gurudas Nulkar emphasized the critical role women have traditionally played in managing water and household resources. “With the right information and exposure, women can continue to play an extremely crucial role in water conservation, especially at a time when it is needed the most,” he said. He also highlighted the impact of individual actions on water usage: “Out of the 150 liters of water required per person, 140 liters end up in rivers as wastewater. Even small changes in our daily routines can significantly reduce this waste, and women can be the primary influencers of such initiatives.”
The lecture focused not only on water management but also on empowering girls to recognize their potential as responsible citizens contributing to a sustainable future. The foundation’s president, Sandeep Nulkar, echoed this vision, noting that the foundation does not merely strive to help underprivileged women become financially independent. “Our goal is to create long-term change, enable girls and families to break the cycle of poverty, and become responsible citizens who are capable of building a sustainable future,” he said.
The event was also attended by the Foundation’s Treasurer, Rushikesh Atre; Director of Mission Rupali Shinde-Agashe; Deputy Director of Mission, Tanmayee Khire; and others.
