Ukrainian drone targets civilians at grocery store in Russian-occupied Kherson town; two killed
Two people were killed and at least 12 injured in a Ukrainian drone attack on the Moscow-occupied town of Oleshky in southern Ukraine, a Russian-installed official said on Friday, as the war continued into its fifth year.
Vladimir Saldo, the Moscow-backed head of the Russian-controlled part of Kherson Oblast, said the strike targeted civilians gathered near a grocery store in Oleshky.
“Kyiv militants committed another bloody crime in Oleshky,” Saldo wrote on Telegram, claiming that drones dropped explosives directly on people at the location.
“According to preliminary reports, two people were killed and 12 were wounded. All were civilians,” he added.
In a separate incident, a downed Ukrainian drone fell near a five-storey apartment building in the port city of Sevastopol in Russian-held Crimea, injuring nine people and causing significant damage, authorities said.
Mikhail Razvozhayev, the Russia-appointed governor of Sevastopol, said the drone was packed with metal fragments and explosives that detonated near the building.
Nine people were reported injured, including six who required hospital treatment. Three of the injured were children.
Sevastopol hosts the headquarters of the Russian Black Sea Fleet. Crimea was annexed by Russia in 2014, a move widely condemned by Western countries, which do not recognise Moscow’s control over the peninsula.
