Velugu leader arrested for threatening bank manager

VISAKHAPATNAM: Anakapalli cops arrested a woman working as a group leader in the

Velugu

project for sending messages, threatening to blast the AP

Grameena Vikas Bank

at Anakapalli and the

State Bank of India

. The group leader was identified as Dachepalli Sivaranjani, who had sent threatening messages to 16 persons including Anakapalli Grameena Vikas Bank manager, Guntur superintendent of police and others.

According to Anakapalli DSP S Prasada Rao, Sivaranjani is a leader of 35 groups, of which, one group had to repay

loans

to the Grameena Vikas Bank. Instead of repaying the loans and getting fresh loans, group members pressurised her to get the benefits of government

welfare schemes

.

Sivaranjani hatched a plan and sent threatening messages to different people to defame the bank manager for not releasing the money of welfare schemes. Cops said that bank manager G Kiran Kumar demanded she ensure that group members repay the loan money, otherwise he would not let them withdraw the money credited in the group account.

In a move to defame the bank manager and put pressure on him, Sivaranjani sent threatening messages between April 19 and April 22. One of the threatening messages reached Guntur SP Vijaya Rao and bank manager Kiran Kumar. Guntur SP sent a team to Anakapalli after noticing the cell tower location. Cop nabbed the woman and also recovered the cell phone.
