VISAKHAPATNAM: Following the chief minister YS Jaganmohan Reddy's announcement of the administration relocating to Vizag, the proposed executive capital of Andhra Pradesh, various department heads are actively seeking suitable office spaces for their state-level offices.
Many offices are expected to be temporarily accommodated in their respective district offices, some of which have their own buildings. In cases where district offices lack sufficient space, arrangements will be made in private buildings.
A committee, led by special secretary Y Srilakshmi, has been tasked with identifying appropriate office spaces for various departments. The committee has already conducted site visits to areas near Rushikonda, including Madhurawada and Yendada, to assess available options. The district collector, Dr. A. Mallikharjuna, Joint Collector Satish Viswanathan, and GVMC Commissioner CM Saikanth Varma are reportedly overseeing this effort.
Sources reveal that officials are actively searching for over two lakh square feet of office space in private buildings across various areas, including Sagarnagar, Yendada, Madhurawada, Kommadi, MVP, Seetammadhara, and Beach Road.
The committee has identified vacant buildings in the IT SEZ in Madhurawada, as well as available space in the VMRDA office complex in Siripuram, among other options. Additionally, they have identified around 2,000 vacant flats and individual houses to accommodate higher-ranking officials from various departments.
While the first priority is to utilize existing district offices for state offices, the authorities are exploring private buildings within a 5 to 10 km radius of the Rushikonda area. It's important to note that the identification process is ongoing, and no final decisions have been made yet. The search for suitable office buildings and residential accommodations will continue until the first week of November, as confirmed by Dr A Mallikharjuna, the district collector. The committee appointed by the government will ultimately make the final decisions in this regard.
