Four city women felicitated for helping manage waste better
Visakhapatnam: Four
The four women— Sena Vijaya Lakshmi, Yendireddy Rama Lakshmi, Motari Lakshmi Sudha and Savaram Vijaya Lakshmi— have charted their own courses in working towards effective waste management in the city.
Sena Vijaya Lakshmi from Visalakshinagar is a software engineer by profession. Some time ago, she got in touch with India Youth for Society (IYFS). She started collecting and depositing dry waste with IYFS.
Yendireddy Rama Lakshmi from Sagar Nagar has also been actively involved in campaigning for segregation of dry and wet waste.
On the other hand, Motamarri Lakshmi Sudha, a resident of Rushikonda, met IYFS members during a clean-up drive at Yerramatti Dibbalu. She took an interest in waste collection and recycling and is now asking her neighbours to practice waste segregation at source.
Savaram Vijaya Lakshmi, the fourth member to have earned the recognition, is a retired lecturer. Having taught zoology for most of her life, she now takes an active interest in working towards saving the ecology.
Dr D Lakshmi Tulasi, assistant medical officer of health, of GVMC zone-6 felicitated the women. Y Appala Reddy, president of IYFS said, “These women dispose plastic waste that that they generate and help in controlling plastic pollution. The segregate, store and give it to us every Saturday. We are confident that this small group of women can motivate a lot of people.”
