Vijayawada: NTR district collector Dr G Lakshmisha announced that the district administration, in tandem with the tourist department, will be organising a three-day Kondapalli Toys Mela marking World Heritage Day celebrations on April 18, 19 and 20 in Kondapalli. Subsequently, a Heritage Walk and Musical Concert will be organised on April 18, on the occasion of World Heritage Day in the city, the district collector said.
Addressing the media persons on Friday, Lakshmisha said the district administration has planned a series of events and the celebrations will kick off with a heritage trek to Kondapalli Fort, which will kick off at 6 am on April 18. The day will also include sports activities and a heritage walk in the city, organised in collaboration with the Indian National Trust for Art and Cultural Heritage, or INTACH.
As part of the Kondapalli Toys Mela, the district collector said prizes worth Rs 1 lakh and certificates will be distributed to winners and participants of the Kondapalli toys-making competition held by the district administration.
The celebrations will conclude with a musical evening at an open ground near Indira Gandhi Municipal Stadium. Popular singers SP Charan and Sunitha are expected to perform, adding a cultural vibrancy to the event.
The administration also plans to honour individuals who have contributed significantly to preserving heritage. Calling for public participation, the collector urged citizens to come forward and support the initiative.
Further, the collector revealed that the district administration is also considering making these heritage celebrations an annual feature to ensure sustained awareness and engagement around cultural preservation.
