Visakhapatnam: The Vizag city police have announced new speed limits for vehicles on various stretches, including the highway and the Beach Road, to mitigate possible road crashes on some stretches and for free flow of traffic on some stretches.
As per the new rule, a uniform speed limit of 40 kmph has been imposed on several key stretches. These include the NH 16 corridor from Kurmannapalem Junction to Kommadi Junction, and the Beach Road stretches from Fishing Harbour to Bheemili (via Sagarnagar and Rushikonda). All municipal roads in the city and BRTS corridors (from Adavivaram to Vepagunta, from Baji Junction to Kancharapalem Mettu) will also have a speed limit of 40 kmph.
The maximum speed limits for vehicles have been fixed at 70 kmph from Rajapulova to Pinagadi (via Pendurthi- NH-16 bypass road) and 60 kmph from Mopada to RK Township (NH-26 road).
The police capped the speed limit of 50 kmph on five stretches, including from E- Marripalem (Parawada) to Kurmannapalem (NH-16 road), from Kommadi to Anandapuram (NH-16 road), from Pendurthi to Baji Junction (BRTS road), from Hanumanthuwaka to Adavivaram (BRTS road) and from Convent Junction to Sheelanagar (Port Road). ADCP (Traffic) K Praveen Kumar said that with the induction of three advanced speed laser guns and an upgraded CCTV surveillance network, the police will intensify the drives to identify the traffic violators and impose fines.
The advanced laser-based speed detection devices would be deployed at multiple locations to monitor violations, he added.
Praveen Kumar said that over-speeding under Section 183 of the Motor Vehicles Act, triple riding under Section 194 C, and riding without a helmet under Section 194 D and riding without a helmet for pillion under Section 194 C will attract a fine of Rs 1,000, along with a recommendation for suspension of the driving license. More serious offences, such as wrong route driving under Section 184, will invite a penalty of Rs 1,500 and similar suspension proceedings, he added.
