Vizianagaram: A four-year-old boy died on Wednesday in an attack by a pack of street dogs in Parvathipuram town of Vizianagaram district in Andhra Pradesh. The boy, P Lohit, was rushed to hospital soon after the attack but succumbed to his injuries while undergoing treatment.
Lohit was attacked by the street dogs while playing outside his house in Manikanta colony in the town. According to officials, Lohit showed signs of recovery after he was admitted to hospital, but his health deteriorated all of a sudden leading to his death. Doctors admit that about 30 dog bite cases are reported daily in Vizianagaram district. Municipal authorities launched a drive against street dogs after Lohit's death.
This is the second incident of attack by street dogs in north coastal Andhra in the last two weeks. Earlier, in Anakapalli district, a woman named Kotni Sravana Jyothi, a resident of Kotni street in Anakapalli town, was seriously injured when street dogs attacked her. She received injuries on her face. The incident occurred when Jyothi opened the front door of her house to come out. A street dog lying outside suddenly attacked her and bit her on the face.
She was shifted to the district hospital and later moved to KGH in Vizag on the advice of doctors. Her condition is said to be stable.
According to official sources, as many as 15 dog bite cases are reported to NTR hospital alone in Anakapalli district every day. There have been around 350 dog bite cases each month between January and August this year in Anakapalli district.
