NDPS cases shifted to Chodavaram after Bar body request

Visakhapatnam: Permission was given to the Chodavaram court to accept the NDPS cases of Alluri Sitarama Raju district and 7 mandals in Chodavaram and Madugula Assembly Constituencies, following the request of the Bar Association. Though ganja cultivation in Alluri district was curbed with stringent measures by the govt, the seizure of huge quantities of ganja coming from the other side of the state border (Odisha) was reported in both districts, increasing the number of NDPS cases. The police and excise departments of Alluri Sitarama Raju and Anakapalli districts travelled to Visakhapatnam for case hearings, forcing them to face hardship, as they were forced to shift seized material with police protection to present it to the judge. In addition, bail petitions of the accused in NDPS cases were also filed in the Visakhapatnam court. All these cases were heard in the Visakhapatnam metropolitan session district court. Now, the ninth additional district court would accept the cases. The Anakapalli court would hear the cases within its jurisdiction. Shifting the accused and the seized ganja over long distances became a burden for the police and excise departments, and the request of the Bar Association was considered by the district judge.
