Vijayawada: The chief minister
N Chandrababu Naidu's district-wise review meetings with ministers, legislators, district collectors and superintendents of police are reshaping political dynamics across the state.
Having already completed reviews in 20 districts, Naidu is now seeking post-review feedback through multiple agencies, indicating a calibrated effort to monitor both governance and party performance at the grassroots.
The reviews, aimed at streamlining administration ahead of the upcoming local body elections, appear to be yielding positive results. Party sources say the performance of leaders has improved noticeably after the exercise, with ministers taking a more proactive role in resolving issues raised by public representatives in coordination with district officials. The initiative is being seen as an attempt to align governance delivery with political accountability.
During the Vizianagaram district meeting, Naidu is learnt to have pulled up NRI affairs minister Kondapalli Srinivas for failing to carry all sections of party leadership along. Srinivas, a first-time legislator, was inducted into the cabinet with expectations of strengthening the party in the district.
The chief minister reportedly expressed dissatisfaction over his performance and stressed the need for inclusive leadership. The timing is significant as the
TDP is set to host its annual conclave, Mahanadu, in Vizianagaram next month. The event is expected to serve as a litmus test for Srinivas, with the party leadership closely watching his ability to mobilise cadre and demonstrate organisational strength.
At a separate review meeting with Kakinada district representatives held at his Undavalli residence, Naidu underscored the importance of flawless public service delivery. "Not even minor lapses should occur in govt services," he said, directing officials to adopt the ‘Nellore model' for speedy resolution of revenue issues. He also asked leaders to actively publicise welfare and development initiatives through social media to ensure wider reach.
Emphasising unity among alliance partners, Naidu remarked that there would effectively be "no opposition" if cadres worked cohesively at the grassroots. He noted that people in the Godavari districts were satisfied with the govt's performance and called on MLAs to remain connected with citizens to convert goodwill into electoral gains.
In a pointed observation, the chief minister also cautioned some leaders against excessive interference by family members and close aides in administrative matters. Public representatives, he said, must take direct responsibility and be visible in governance, rather than allowing informal power centres to emerge.
