Visakhapatnam: Following the death of a class VII student of Kasturba Gandhi Balika Vidyalaya (KGBV), at Atchutapuram in Anakapalle district, the principal of school, Uma Devi, and three other staff members, including the inhouse ANM, have been placed under suspension.
The 13-year-old girl student, M Navya, a native of Pudimadaka in Anakapalle district, died allegedly due to negligence of the KGBV staff. As per reports, Navya fell sick in the early hours of Saturday (April 11), following which the staff of KGBV alerted her parents, Raju and Yellamma, and shifted Navya to NTR Hospital at Anakapalle where she died.
Though some students and the girl's parents suspect a snake bite or a bee sting led to the death of Navya, doctors said they did not find any such bite marks. However, a postmortem was ordered after her parents lodged a complaint at Atchutapuram police station.
The death sparked a protest from students of KGBV and parents and relatives of the girl. The protestors alleged that the negligence of the staff claimed the life of the girl as the hostel compound was full of bushes and garbage and the students saw snakes several times in the past.
