VIJAYAWADA: Former Indian national badminton player and coach Veda Vyas Sai Anumula is emerging as one of the influential figures in the rapidly growing United States badminton circuit, combining elite coaching expertise with sports management leadership to help shape the future of the sport in America.
Anumula, who was ranked India No. 2 in the junior category in 2015 and remained among the country’s top-10 players by 2017, has built a reputation for technical excellence and strategic coaching. With seven national medals to his credit, he later transitioned from competitive badminton into high-performance coaching and sports administration.
His coaching career gained prominence during his tenure at the internationally reputed Suchitra academy between 2020 and 2023, where he worked as an assistant coach in a high-performance training ecosystem. During this period, he also served as a sparring partner for Olympic medalist and world champion P V Sindhu during her elite training preparations.
After moving to the United States and completing a Master’s degree in sport management, Anumula joined the Triangle Badminton Club in North Carolina. He collaborated with Olympian and world championship medallist Sai Praneeth B., forming a high-performance coaching team focused on developing competitive American badminton talent.
Under their guidance, several young athletes secured medals in USA Badminton sanctioned tournaments, including open local championships and open regional championships. One of his students, Nitesh H., went on to win a junior national medal, further strengthening Anumula’s reputation as a coach capable of producing national-level talent in the U.S.
Most recently, Anumula served as head coach and operations manager at Vistara Sports in Texas, where athletes trained under him won more than 10 medals in official USA badminton events. His growing stature in the sport was further recognised with his appointment as tournament director for the 2026 USA Badminton Vistara south open local championships. Sports observers view his rise as an example of how Indian badminton expertise is increasingly influencing global training systems and contributing to the professionalisation of badminton in the United States.
