Vijayawada: Bhukya Srinu, an ex-sarpanch of Bachulavariguda village of Nuzivid mandal, attempted suicide at the rural police station on Friday by consuming pesticide.
Srinu alleged that he received death threats from
Shankar Rao, apolitical leader from the same village, and that the police was not registering his complaint.
According to SI T Ramakrishna, SI of Nuzivid rural police station, 48-year-old Srinu was the sarpanch of his village from 2006 to 2011.
Later, he switched to another party after completing his tenure. Srinu and his brother-in-law Malavathu Venkat Kumar, who also belongs to the same political party, sold cement on village outskirts and clashed over business matters and lodged complaints against each other. Ramakrishna called both of them to the station for counselling, however, Srinu brought a bottle of pesticide and consumed it at the station entrance. Immediately, he was rushed to a hospital and is undergoing treatment. His condition is said to be stable.
The SI also denied allegations that Srinu was threatened multiple times by Shankar Rao and that his complaint was ignored. He alleged that Srinu has not lodged any complaint against Shankar Rao. “If he lodges a plaint, then action will be taken as per the rule,” the SI said.
Police are yet to record the statement of Srinu, who is undergoing treatment,, and register a case.
