Guntur: A 2007-batch Indian Revenue Service (IRS) officer, Arun Richard, assumed charge as the commissioner of central GST, Guntur commissionerate, on Tuesday.
The Guntur commissionerate comprises five divisions and 36 range offices covering several districts in Andhra Pradesh, including West Godavari, Krishna, NTR, Eluru, Guntur, Bapatla, Palnadu, Prakasam and SPS Nellore districts, besides parts of East Godavari and Tirupati districts.
The commissionerate plays a key role in GST administration and revenue collection across coastal and central Andhra Pradesh. Prior to his new assignment, Arun Richard served as commissioner of central tax and customs (appeals), functioning as the appellate authority for five commissionerates under the Visakhapatnam central GST and cstoms zone.
Speaking after assuming charge, Arun Richard said his priority would be to improve the overall performance and efficiency of the commissionerate through better taxpayer services, technology-driven administration and stronger coordination among field formations. Additional commissioner B Lakshmi Narayana was also present.
